DiagnosisOne Names Francis X. Campion, M.D., Vice President of Clinical Affairs

Clinical Decision Support and Analytics Innovator Adds Healthcare Research and Information Systems Veteran to Expand Vast Library of Evidence-based Content

LOWELL, Mass.—October 17, 2011—DiagnosisOne, the clinical decision support and analytics company, today announced that it has named Francis X. Campion, M.D., FACP, as its new vice president of clinical affairs. In this role, Dr. Campion will be responsible for leading the continued expansion of DiagnosisOne’s vast library of evidence-based content, which provides patient-specific plans of treatment, order sets and analytics to healthcare providers at the point of care. He will report directly to Fauzia Khan, M.D., FCAP, DiagnosisOne’s chief medical officer and co-founder.

“Dr. Campion is one of the industry’s foremost experts in clinical quality and healthcare information systems, and he will be integral to the continued growth of DiagnosisOne’s library of evidence-based content,” said Dr. Khan. “We look forward to leveraging his expertise to expand DiagnosisOne’s clinical rules and order sets based on the most current evidence, as well as to drive other key areas of product development. These initiatives are central to our mission of delivering improved quality of care, reducing costs and providing greater access to information at the patient and population levels.”

Prior to joining DiagnosisOne, Dr. Campion served as director of provider programs for Outcome, Inc., where he worked with hospitals and physician professional societies to deliver clinical outcomes programs to improve quality and patient safety. He is a member of the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where he participates in research initiatives involving the use of clinical information systems for biosurveillance, patient safety and clinical decision support. Dr. Campion maintains an internal medicine clinical practice at the Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) Kenmore center in Boston. He served as the director of clinical Informatics from 2005-2007 at Atrius Health and medical director of HVMA’s Complex Chronic Care disease management service from 2007-2009.

DiagnosisOne’s clinical decision support (CDS) and analytics solutions improve the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care. Leveraging the world’s largest, most robust collection of medical rules, combined with powerful analytics, DiagnosisOne enables healthcare providers to reduce costs, increase efficiencies and improve medical outcomes. The company’s customers include healthcare providers, hospitals, health plans, electronic medical record (EMR) vendors, systems integrators and government entities, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Dr. Campion has direct experience working with DiagnosisOne’s clinical decision support and analytics capabilities based on his contributions to a patient safety surveillance study conducted at HVMA. The study focused on improving patient health and safety while reducing costs by analyzing lab-enriched claims data to identify and alert care providers to patients with significant gaps in care, including those at high risk for cancer. The findings verified that DiagnosisOne’s search engine of clinical algorithms can be effectively and accurately applied to a clinical and claims database to create alerts to prompt clinician interventions with patients to improve the quality and safety of care, “close the loop” on high risk cases and reduce the risk of professional liability.

“I’ve seen firsthand the power of DiagnosisOne’s capabilities for analyzing complex patient data and delivering guidance at the point of care to improve care quality,” said Dr. Campion. “I look forward to helping to build upon DiagnosisOne’s already massive database of evidence-based content. As trends shaping the healthcare industry are forcing care providers to maintain quality with fewer available resources, I’m thrilled to join an organization that will help them more effectively meet their goals.”

Dr. Campion also served as the director for clinical information systems at Harvard Vanguard/Atrius Health, where he helped deploy an advanced electronic medical records system across the Atrius Health Care System of 700 physicians. He has held positions as medical director for information systems and vice president for clinical integration at Caritas Christi Health Care System, and as medical director, quality resources and risk management, at Lahey Clinic. Dr. Campion holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from College of the Holy Cross.
