"Clinical decision support (CDS) provides clinicians, staff, patients or other individuals with knowledge and person-specific information, intelligently filtered or presented at appropriate times, to enhance health and health care." AMIA, A Roadmap for National Action on Clinical Decision Support, June 13, 2006.

The value of CDS

EMRs, P4P, Healthcare IT, every stakeholder in the healthcare industry is going to be affected by this technology. Clinical decision Support (CDS) tools are the critical piece required to generate the required return on investment. Without CDS EMR systems are not much more than fancy PDAs. Recent studies have shown that up to 80% of the potential benefit of deploying an EMR system will come from CDS capabilities. CDS capabilities, even in the absence of EMRs have been shown to reduce hospitalizations by 20%.

Pay for Performance (P4P)

Pay for Performance (P4P) programs are currently being considered by every payer in the country. However, physicians are concerned that this will be just another way to reduce their reimbursements. CDS can bridge this gap by providing physicians critical information about what standards of care they are expected to follow and thus fulfill the promise of P4P programs.

D1.Pathway

Our industry leading product, D1.Pathway, provides patient centric rules that integrate Lab, Pharmacy and Radiology data with Evidence Based guidelines. These guidelines have been developed by a team of physician experts in their areas. More than seventy physician years went into the development of these rules, also published as a textbook.

We have done all the hard work to collect this knowledge from the best evidence based sources. D1.Pathway can be modified by each institution to suit their particular needs and methodologies with minimal effort.

The Rules

Our rules are extracted from hundreds of algorithms captured thru over 70 physician-years of effort, covering:

  • Presenting complaints
  • History, vitals and physical examination questions
  • Diagnoses
  • Procedures – Lab tests, Pathology, Radiology etc.
  • Drugs
  • The rules depict relationships based on ICD 9, NDC, CPT, LOINC and SNOMED codes
  • CMS Compliance
  • Relationships depicted include those between:
    • Complaints and Tests
    • Tests and Medications
    • Diagnoses and Tests
    • Diagnoses and Medication
    • Test Results and Alerts.

Your Environment

D1.Pathway is delivered as a web service. D1.Pathway has been designed to work with existing EMR, EHR as well as Hospital and Laboratory Information Systems (including Meditech and Cerner). By implementing D1.Pathway across your entire system or as a module within your EMR, EHR, HIS or LIS environment you can significantly reduce errors while improving patient care.

Standards Support

Our CDS rules are based on national coding standards including:

  • ICD 9
  • NDC
  • CPT
  • LOINC and
  • HL7 Vocabulary
  • SNOMED CT.

This provides us the ability to deliver these rules to multiple external systems with out the need for custom interfaces.

HL7 Integration

The DiagnosisONE team has tremendous experience in the challenges of integrating complex, mission critical software systems. In the healthcare arena we have focused our efforts around the HL7 interface standard.

There are however, many complexities inherent in the HL7 transaction. DiagnosisONE has the systems and experience as well as the technology necessary to quickly and successfully get interfaces deployed and operational. The DiagnosisONE HL7 Interfaces are flexible enough to accommodate the needs of the HL7 standard as well as being able to be customized for handling proprietary formats.
